Best Wines to Woo your Valentine

Want to wow your sweetie this Valentine’s Day? Forget the chocolates, most people I know would rather enjoy wine and it’s just way more fun and has zero fat. I don’t know about you, but wine certainly gets me in the mood too, moreso than a box of chocolates. Leave those for Forest Gump! Here’s a list of sexy sippers to share with your sweetie and why!

Who doesn’t love Champagne and Sparkling Wine? It’s the best way to start a meal, celebrate and even end a meal! You don’t need to dish out on Dom Perignon, there are plenty of affordable bubbles and these are two of my favorites:
NV Bernard Remy, Champagne – $31.99 – This has to be one of the best buys out of Champagne and is a lovely blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with just a touch of Pinot Meunier.
2014 Murgo Brut Rosé, Sicily – $27.99 – From the slopes of Mt. Etna is where this wine stems from. The grape is Nerello Mascalese and the beautiful wine is pink rose in color with flavors of wild strawberries and pomegranates. If you did get chocolate, this wine will pair perfectly!

I’d be remiss without listing a few white wines because there are plenty of lovers out there that don’t drink red, and many whites can be quite romantic.
2016 Villa Varda Friulano, Friuli – $15.99 – Friulano is so fragrant and inviting. This wine has an intoxicating nose of wildflowers and apricots. Happy by itself, or alongside shellfish, Thai, or Chinese cuisines.
2015 Domaine Vincent Boyer, Meursault ‘En L’Ormeau’ – $69.99 – If you must splurge on a white wine, look no further than a Chardonnay from Meursault. Chardonnay from Meursault has more tropical fruits than those in other regions. Vincent Boyer is one of the rock starts in Meursault only making wines from the family’s vineyards.

Red wines just ooze romance and here’s a few from a lighter style up to a richer and bolder.
2016 Domaine Michel Sarrazin et Fils, Bourgogne Rouge – $23.99 – Pinot Noir from Burgundy is like no other on earth and it’s very hard to find a killer value. This winery makes some of the sexiest Burgundies on the market and truly over delivers for the price.
2014 Rocca di Montegrossi, Chianti Classico – $26.99 – You can replay the romantic pasta scene from Lady and the Tramp with this amazing Chianti. This family dates back to the 12th century and practically developed the Chianti style of wine.
2016 Mariana Tinto, Alentejo – $12.99 – Here’s a fun red blend from Portugal that definitely won’t drain your budget. Fresh, pure, and fruity (but not sweet).
2015 Jean-Louis Chave, Crozes-Hermitage ‘Silene’ – $27.99 – Syrah, one of the most decadent wines out there. Rich, powerful, yet velvety at the same time. The Chave family dates back to 1481 and may just know a thing or two about producing great Syrah.

Remember to support your local wine shop and have a great Valentine’s Day!
