Planning a wine-tasting trip to Italy is not difficult but you will need a car in order to get around. The highway system is easy but keep in mind there are a lot of tolls and some villages do not allow cars. I plan 1-2 days in each region in addition to a day in Rome if you like big cities. I prefer spending my time in smaller cities like Modena.
My favorite time to visit Italy is in the Fall because the tourists are gone and the change in produce gives way to beautiful dishes. It's also truffle season in Tuscany and Piedmont.
